American Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich has now been detained in Russia for 250 days. His family is speaking out about the ordeal, which they say is painful and getting worse.
Gershkovich, 29, was arrested on December 28, 2021, in Moscow. He was charged with espionage, a crime that carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. Gershkovich and his newspaper, The Wall Street Journal, have denied the charges.
Gershkovich's family says they have not been able to see him since he was arrested. They say they have been told that he is in good health, but they are worried about his well-being.
"We just want him home," said Gershkovich's mother, Ella Milman. "We don't know what to do anymore. We're just waiting and hoping."
