Moment Biden snaps at reporter during Starmer meeting: 'Be quiet'

Tempers flare as Biden challenges reporter’s question on Prince Andrew

US President Joe Biden appeared to lose his patience with a reporter after they shouted over him while he took a question from UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.

Mr Biden was greeting members of the press ahead of his meeting with Sir Keir in Glasgow when he was interrupted by a question about the ongoing civil sexual assault case against Prince Andrew brought by Virginia Giuffre.

The Duke of York has consistently denied the allegations, which relate to events that are alleged to have taken place when Ms Giuffre was 17.

‘Be quiet’

“Mr President, do you think Prince Andrew should face justice in the US?” a reporter with GB News shouted.

Mr Biden appeared not to hear the question, but after being alerted to it by Sir Keir, he responded: “I'm not going to comment. I'm not going to comment on that.”

Mr Biden then attempted to continue to the meeting but was met with further questions asking the same thing.

“Are you concerned that he won't face justice in the UK?” the GB News reporter asked again.

Appearing visibly frustrated, the president replied: “Be quiet. Come on, man. I’m not going to answer that now. Ok?”

Mr Biden walked away from the press conference and into the meeting.

‘Totally wrong’

Reacting to the moment, a spokesperson for Buckingham Palace said: “We would not comment on anything that is sub-judice.

“But a civil case has been brought against the Duke of York in the United States, as you know, and the duke has already addressed this particular allegation.”

In 2019, Prince Andrew said in a BBC interview that he has “no recollection” of meeting Ms Giuffre and described a photograph showing him with Ms Giuffre as “totally wrong”.

“But if you’re asking me, do I regret the fact that I have a close friendship with Jeffrey Epstein, then yes, I do,” he said.

“It has certainly caused me great difficulties in the past and will continue to do so, there’s no question about that.”

The Duke of York has not been charged with any crimes, and the royal family has said it will not comment further on the case.
