**Coastal flooding and large waves main concern for our area**

**Hurricane season is here**

It's the time of year again when we need to be aware of the risks of coastal flooding and large waves. The National Hurricane Center is predicting an above-average number of storms for the 2023 season. Coastal flooding is a serious threat to life and property, and it can happen even if a hurricane doesn't make landfall. Large waves can also be a hazard, especially for swimmers and boaters.

**What can you do to stay safe?**

There are a number of things you can do to stay safe during hurricane season. First, be sure to have a plan in place in case of a hurricane. This plan should include an evacuation route and a place to stay if you need to leave your home. You should also make sure to have an emergency kit with food, water, and other supplies.

If a hurricane is approaching, be sure to stay informed about the latest forecasts and warnings. If you are asked to evacuate, do so immediately. Do not wait until it is too late.
