The St. Louis Cardinals have activated reliever Ryan Helsley from the 60-day injured list and transferred infielder Brendan Donovan to the 60-day injured list.
Helsley, 29, has been one of the most dominant relievers in baseball this season, posting a 0.60 ERA and 13.5 strikeouts per nine innings in 30 appearances. He is a key part of the Cardinals' bullpen, which is one of the best in the National League.
Donovan, 26, has been sidelined since July 19 with a right shoulder injury. He has been a valuable utility player for the Cardinals this season, hitting .300 with two home runs and 15 RBIs in 75 games.
The Cardinals are currently in first place in the NL Central Division, and they are hoping that Helsley's return will help them maintain their lead. The Cardinals are also hoping that Donovan will be able to return to the lineup before the end of the season.
