Company Citing Underperformance as Reason for Closure

32 Northeast U.S. Locations to Shut Down

Brockton, NJ - Stop & Shop announced Friday that it will close 32 underperforming grocery stores in the Northeast US. The closures, which are scheduled to take place by the end of the year, include one location in Brockton, New Jersey.

After the closures, Stop & Shop will operate more than 350 stores in five states, including 81 in Connecticut, 115 in Massachusetts, 47 in New Jersey, 111 in New York, and 10 in Rhode Island.

The company's decision to close 32 locations is part of a broader trend in the grocery industry, as physical retailers face increasing competition from online grocers and discount chains.
