Marcus Ericsson Wins Thrilling 2022 Indy 500

A Thrilling Victory After a Dramatic Finish

In a nail-biting finish, 31-year-old Swedish driver Marcus Ericsson held on to secure the 106th Indianapolis 500 on May 29, 2022. The victory came after a thrilling two-lap shootout and a red flag stoppage with just four laps remaining.

Ericsson, driving for Chip Ganassi Racing, started the final stretch of the race in the lead and managed to fend off a fierce challenge from Pato O'Ward, who was closing in on him in the closing laps. O'Ward's aggressive moves and Ericsson's determined defense kept fans on the edge of their seats until the checkered flag waved.

A Journey from Formula One to IndyCar Success

Ericsson's journey to IndyCar stardom began with his time in Formula One, where he competed for three seasons. However, despite his talent behind the wheel, he failed to secure a consistent seat and ultimately left the sport in search of new opportunities.

In 2019, Ericsson made the switch to IndyCar, joining Schmidt Peterson Motorsports. His first two seasons in the series were marred by inconsistency, but he gradually acclimatized to the American open-wheel racing scene.

For 2022, Ericsson joined Chip Ganassi Racing, one of the most successful teams in IndyCar history. The move proved pivotal as he enjoyed a breakout season, culminating in his historic victory at the Indianapolis 500.
