OJ Trial: Fred and Kim Goldman Take Legal Action Against Former Friend

Seeking Closure Amidst Ongoing Pain

Los Angeles, CA - March 21, 2013

Fred and Kim Goldman, the father and sister of the late Ron Goldman who was brutally murdered in 1994, have filed a lawsuit against former friend Kato Kaelin.

The lawsuit alleges that Kaelin breached a confidentiality agreement by discussing details of the murders in his 1997 book, "If I Did It: Confessions of the Killer," which he co-authored with Pablo F. Fenjves. The book was widely condemned as exploiting the tragedy for profit.

"Kato Kaelin repeatedly promised my son Ron, my daughter Kim, and me that he would remain silent about the murders," said Fred Goldman in a statement. "He knowingly violated that promise with his book, causing additional pain and anguish to our family."

The Goldmans are seeking monetary damages and punitive damages from Kaelin. They are also asking the court to order Kaelin to return all profits from the book's sale.

"We are determined to hold Kato Kaelin accountable for his actions," said attorney David Cook, who is representing the Goldmans. "His breach of trust was a callous betrayal of Ron Goldman's memory and our family's grief."

Kaelin has not yet responded to the lawsuit publicly. However, he has previously defended his right to write about the murders, claiming that he was not legally bound by the confidentiality agreement he signed with the Goldmans.

The lawsuit is the latest chapter in a long and painful legal battle for the Goldmans. O.J. Simpson, who was acquitted of the murders of Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson in 1995, was later found liable for their wrongful deaths in a civil lawsuit filed by the Goldmans.

Despite the legal victories, the Goldmans say they continue to struggle with the loss of Ron. "We will never stop fighting for justice for Ron," said Fred Goldman. "This lawsuit is another step in our journey to find closure and peace."
